6.3 Auto-numbering Of Form Elements
Syntax and use
Number counters are referred to as %.
The counters are used in number formulas inside curly brackets {}.
Number formulas can be entered in Text Label elements.
Form elements can be auto-numbered by including a special code in the Label property of the element or page, e.g.
{%} {%%} {%page} {%a} etc.
The numbering is automatically adjusted according to form elements being hidden or displayed.
Note! When exporting a selection of pages to PDF, the numbers are not changed. They will still correspond to the numbers in the form.
There are 4 types of numbering:
- Regular numbering with sublevels
- Numbering groups (no sublevels)
- Page and Page total numbering
- Question option numbering
1. Regular numbering with sublevels
Use one of the following {%} {%%} {%%%} {%%%%} in an element’s Label to have it auto numbered.
2. Numbering groups (no sublevels)
Use e.g. {%a}, {%bcd} or {%x} in an element’s Label to have it auto numbered in groups.
Each appearance of the counter will increment the counter.
The example below shows how the various counters %a, %bcd and %x will increase for each mention.
3. Page and Page total numbering
Use {%page} or {%pageTotal} to add page counters on a form page.
Note: Unlike other numbering parameters, page numbers do not increment for each appearance. They always refer to the page the parameter is located on.
These counters can be used for dynamic titles based on page numbers and total number of pages.
In addition to the page counters for form pages, there is a set of page parameters that counts the pages in a PDF print-out:
{%pageNo} or {%pageNoTotal} will print the numbers of the actual printed pages.
4. Element option numbering
Add {%} to add a counter to an option of a question. E.g.: {%} Yes and {%} No .
Note! Option numbering does not support nested levels!
