FAQ: Why can't I edit an activity in the app?

Published:
Updated:

An activity in the Zegeba App will not take your work, and once the app syncs it stops opening altogether.

Available from Zegeba 4.13.

Problem

You go to an activity you have worked in before and cannot fill in its forms, edit an entry or add an attachment. Once the app has synced, the activity does not open at all: the app reports that the requested item could not be found. The rest of your work is unaffected.

Cause

The activity's activity template was archived in the Dashboard. An archived template can no longer produce or accept work, so the activities built on it stop being served to the app, and the app can no longer open them.

From Zegeba 4.13 the Dashboard warns an administrator before archiving a template that still has activities with people assigned, so this is a deliberate act rather than a surprise.

Solution

  1. Check with your Zegeba administrator whether the template was archived deliberately. If that work is finished, the activity is meant to be closed and there is nothing to fix.
  2. If it was archived by mistake, ask them to unarchive it: Templates > Activity Templates, the menu beside Clear Filters, Show Archived, then Unarchive on the row. See Activity Template Overview.
  3. Sync the app once the template is back. The activity works normally again, with everything you captured still in place.

Your unsynced work is safe throughout. Anything captured before the template was archived stays on the device and uploads when you sync; archiving a template never discards it.

FAQs

Will I lose the data I captured but never synced?
No. Unsynced data is kept on the device and uploads when the activity works again or when you next sync.

Why did this happen without warning?
From Zegeba 4.13 the Dashboard warns an administrator before archiving a template that still has activities with people assigned. Archiving it anyway is still possible when that is deliberate, and that is what you are seeing.

Can I copy the data into another activity myself?
No, and it should not be needed. Ask for the template to be unarchived instead: the activity comes back complete, which a copy would not.
